Our History

The Story of Our Monastery

Around 1836, Ven-Nandsara hard been starting to build the Mon Pitakas Monetary which was built with brick. Then he started taking the duty of Abbot at this monastery for 15 years from 1875 to 1890. After him, five abbots, are Keep maintaining the monastery year by year consecutively. They are Ven Wara Thiri (1890-1920), Ven Pyinyar Doppa (1920-1950), Ven Nyana (1950-1986), Ves Obatha (1986-2008) and Ven Kosalla from 2008 to the present.At the time of Abbot Ven Kosalla, he has been providing a lot of excellent contributions and services to the community such as supporting the development of education, health and social need for the public. On 12 May 2014, he has led to building the Petakas three floors building in the monastery and it was Finished at 16 Febuary 2022. In addition, he started construction of the Pyinyar Thuka monk school at 05 March 2021. He also creates the chance for the mon youth make to learn the modern essential skills like opening the computer and English special classes.

About current ven and His Activities

Ven Kosalla is currently presiding Ven at Bartheikpitakotmon monastery. He was born in Mudoon village, Chaung Zon Township, Mon state, Myanmar in January 26 1976. His original name is Min Kyaw Swar Oo and Mehm Kol Son in Mon. Oo Nyunt Hla and Daw Nwge Win are his parent. He passed matriculation exam in 1992 with two distinctions. At the age of sixteen he got novice life in Thiho monastery, Mudoon village and studied pitakot at there. He started studying Myanmar specialization at Mawlamyine University distance education in November 1993.

He actived in local community development with NGOs communities from 2002 to 2005. In 2006, he educated to migrant workers from Thailand. He joined as a mon language part time tutor at naresuan university, department of Myanmarsar during 2007 to 2008. And he joined Buddha Philosophy Master degree at kelaniya, Srilanka international university in 2009. He got Master of Arts(MA) degree in 2010. Ven Kosalla became 6th presiding Ven at Tawkana monastery in January 2010 and leads in community development until these day.

He got monkhood at Pitakot monastery, Mudoon in May 13 1995. He got Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in 1997. He did in Yamanya Monk and regional mon literature and culture team as a volunteer in 1999. He studied and did volunteer in teaching at Pariyati Dayve mon monastery. He did vice responsible person at Mon-say- tanar foundation in 2000. He participated in development, management and leadership training at local and international during 2001..
